Este sábado 24 de febrero continuaron los choques de Spring Training de MLB y los Cardenales de San Luis cayeron nueve anotaciones por ocho ante los Miami Marlins en el Roger Dean Chevrolet.
El cubano César Prieto entró a correr en el cierre del tercero en lugar de Nolan Gorman, anotó carrera en ese mismo inning y se quedó defendiendo en la intermedia. En su primer turno bate en el quinto episodio conectó cohete al central para remolcar una carrera y acercar a los suyos en el marcador (6×4).
En la sexta cedió el último out del inning con rolling por primera base e igualmente en el octavo falló con elevado al jardinero central (Victor Mesa Jr) para ceder el tercer out. En definitiva se marchó de 3-1 en el juego, con par de anotadas, un sencillo y remolque.
En este desafío también vio acción el también cubano Victor Mesa Jr. El menor de los hermanos Mesa defendió el jardín central y bateó de 3-2, con par de dobles y una anotada.
Prieto tuvo un año de lujo en Las Menores en 2023, empezó a todo tren con Bowie Baysox (.364, 231-84, 29 RBI) y fue subido el 20 de junio a Norfolk Tides, equipo de Triple A de los Orioles de Baltimore. El 1 de agosto, en la fecha límite de cambios fue canjeado para Cardinals y luego fue asignado igualmente para Triple A (Memphis).
Participó en 123 juegos en este año, mantuvo excelente línea ofenisva de .323/.367/.446/.813, con 161 imparables en 498 turnos legales, 25 biangulares, tres triples, 10 jonrones, 69 impulsadas, 30 boletos y nueve bases robadas.
El cienfueguero superó en 34 incogibles su marca del año anterior (127), en 12 las remolcadas (57) y en 16 las anotadas (57). También sobrepasó la cantidad de boletos (30>20) y mejoró muchísimo su proporción de ponches, solo se ponchó 52 veces en 2023, en 2022 lo hizo en 74 ocasiones.
Antes del comienzo del juego de esta sábado el colega de nuestro sitio, Renier González Jr, estuvo conversando con el cienfueguero y le dejó las siguientes impresiones:
P. ¿Cómo trabajaste en este Off Season, en qué te enfocaste para esta temporada?
César Prieto: «Me enfoque principalmente en mi zona de bateo, en mi zona fuerte y pienso que fue algo que pude mejorar en este Off Season».
P. Desde que llegaste a las Ligas Menores defensivamente te cambiaron de posición, ¿cómo has asumido este cambio de rol?
César Prieto: «Súper bien, me he sentido bien cómodo, me ha gustado el cambio para tercera base, me gusta jugar esa posición y pienso que ser un pelotero versátil me ayuda mucho dentro de la organización, eso para mí es de agrado».
P. Estuviste con las Águilas, en la pasada Off Season también, ¿cómo caracterizas la calidad del béisbol dominicano, buena, muy bueno o muy parecido al de las Grandes Ligas?
César Prieto: «El nivel es muy parecido a las Grandes Ligas en verdad, gran pitcheo, los peloteros con mucho tiempo en Grandes Ligas, muchos prospectos, pienso que es súper buena la Liga».
P. César, ¿cuál es el principal objetivo este año cuando subas?
César Prieto: «El principal objetivo cuando suba es llegar, hacer los ajustes rápido y quedarme».
P. Un mensaje para todas las personas que siempre te siguen y te apoyan desde el primer día
César Prieto: «Decirles que aquí sigue César Prieto, peleand, y ahí seguiremos».
